Danobatgroup puts women’s work in the digital environment in perspective 
  • Being a collaborating company of the Gladys Award initiative, the industrial group took part this morning in the award ceremony
  • Promoted by the PuntuEUS Foundation and the Faculty of Computer Science of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), this year the award recognised the career of the technologist Lorea Argarate Zubia


One of the pillars of the Danobatgroup industrial group is the promotion of scientific and technological talent, especially of women, and encouraging the interest of young women in the STEAM fields. This commitment is materialised through various initiatives launched by Danobatgroup, including support for the Gladys Award, which has been recognising women's contributions to the Basque digital environment since 2021.

This award, promoted by the PuntuEUS Foundation and the Faculty of Computer Science of the UPV/EHU, with the sponsorship from the Equality Body of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the support from Emakunde, Danobatgroup and the Equality Directorate of the UPV/EHU, pays tribute to the computer scientist Gladys del Estal and aims to recognise and promote young women in the digital environment of the Basque Country.

The award ceremony, held this morning at the UPV/EHU's Faculty of Computer Science, recognised the work of Lorea Argarate Zubia, a technologist, disseminator, entrepreneur and musician from Bilbao, who at 34 years of age has an outstanding track record in the dissemination of science and technology in the Basque language.  Argarate is a telecommunications engineer (University of Deusto, 2016), holds a postgraduate degree in industrial organisation (University of Deusto, 2017) and two master's degrees: One in Big Data & BI (University of Deusto, 2017) and another in teacher training (VIU, 2018).


Breaking stereotypes

Her work has focused on linking her projects with a gender perspective, breaking stereotypes and presenting new professional opportunities in the digital environment. She has participated for example in initiatives such as InspiraSTEAM and in the creation of programmes such as White Mirror/Tech for Good, focused on exponential technologies for well-being, and has collaborated with various organisations, including PUNTUEUS, Elhuyar and GAZTEA.


Argate's career serves as a reference for women who want to enter the STEAM fields. Recognition of her work not only inspires future generations but also enriches and strengthens the sustainability of the industry, fostering a more inclusive and diverse environment in the sector.

The support of the leading industrial group in machine tools to the Gladys Award is in addition to its commitment to other initiatives that promote the visibility and empowerment of women in the scientific-technological field, such as the Ada Byron awards, organised by the University of Deusto, which recognise female talent in the technological field.
