The awarded study proposes a solution for the machining of components in an automated production environment
With the mission to promote passion for technological research in classrooms, every year the business group DANOBATGROUP recognises the best industrial project carried out by the Industrial Engineering Masters students at Tecnun, The University of Navarra´s Engineering School.
This year the award was given to the team formed by Aitor Arraiza, Juan Alcalde, Carlos Basarte and Alejandro García, who presented a solution for the machining of industrial components in an automated production environment, which met the requirements of precision and automation demanded by the Basque manufacturer.
To obtain the award, the Masters students tackle the same technological challenge proposed by the machine tool manufacturer, and they must work in teams to achieve this. This year the challenge chosen by DANOBATGROUP consisted of the design of a machine for machining couplings with the capability to operate in an automated production environment.
The students, organised in groups, had to develop a solution that met all the proposed requirements and was fully compliant with the accuracy and automation requirements established by the Basque manufacturer.
Once their work was completed, the students defended their projects in front of a jury made up of specialists from the DANOBATGROUP and the technology centre IK4-IDEKO, the innovation driver of the group, on 21 February.
The presentations given by the candidates allowed the members of the jury to assess the quality of the projects and choose the winning team.
The participation in these awards has allowed the students to find out about the operation of real industrial environments at the facilities of the advanced manufacturing solution manufacturer, where the young people received theoretical and practical training on production and design systems and precision engineering.
The prize awarded by DANOBATGROUP forms part of the collaboration agreement signed by the industrial group and TECNUN in December 2015 with the aim of bringing the academic and professional world closer to each other to be able to transfer the knowledge acquired in the classroom to real industrial manufacturing environments.
The alliance between the two entities consists of offering students the opportunity to develop a technological project in the DANOBATGROUP facilities and the technological centre of the group, IK4-IDEKO.
The awards, organized each year, seek to highlight the excellence of the Master´s students, promote their technical knowledge and enhance cross-cutting skills such as inventiveness, analytical skills and teamwork.
